Lautrec village

Village
Lautrec

Details of the activity

Lautrec is classified among the "Most Beautiful Villages of France", they share the same passion and the same ambition: to make known and recognize the exceptional quality of their heritage and to invite you to a meeting with their history. The medieval city of Lautrec is located in the heart of the Tarn department. From the top of its rocky peak, the Calvaire de la Salette offers us a superb view over the Agout valley, the Montagne Noire and the Pyrenees. Founded in 940, the city of Lautrec developed at the foot of a rocky outcrop which gives it an ideal defensive location. Lautrec gained notoriety thanks to the great families of viscounts, from which the ancestors of the famous painter Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec come. Like a real history book placed at the disposal of the eyes, the old stones will tell you, at the bend of the alleys lined with remarkable monuments, the glorious history of this medieval city in the Land of Cocagne. Lautrec welcomes you in the authentic setting of one of the "Most Beautiful Villages of France". A rural area, it also owes its fame to the labeled production of Pink Garlic from Lautrec which makes it one of the "Remarkable Sites of Taste". The Land of Plenty owes its name to the culture of Pastel, a dye plant that made the region so rich from the 14th to the 16th centuries. Lautrec was notably a place for exchanges of bales of Pastel, at "La Pastellerie", at the foot of the windmill.
